In a few short days we will be launching our 2019 workshop season, and we are so excited to be welcoming a new year of students into our studio. We know that not everyone can afford the expense of the workshop and we want to help a few people have the opportunity to come so that they can pursue their talents, passions and dreams. We give scholarships because we know that we are where we are today because of the people who have believed in our dreams and generously helped us along our journey. It’s our way of giving back and helping others get to where they dream of being.

To submit for a scholarship, please look for this image on our Instagram feed and follow the instructions! Looking forward to reading your submissions!

2018 workshops

I can’t believe this will be our fourth year of offering workshops in our Seattle based design studio. It feels just like yesterday that I nervously announced our first workshop, afraid that no one would come. Much to my surprise, every workshop sold out that first year, and they have continued to sell out year after year. It has been humbling and rewarding to have the opportunity to teach and guide each attendee and to be part of their creative story.

Universal Purpose…

Since we opened our studio for workshops, we have had attendees come from all across the globe… Australia, France, England, Portugal, Singapore, China, Korea, Japan, Mexico, and Canada, not to mention all of the people from all over the United States that have travelled far to get here, and those from our own back yard here in the Northwest. It doesn’t matter where each attendee has come from, or how well they speak English, or what their level of experience was… the common thread that brought us all together was a passion for bringing beauty into this world… the beauty of floral design and creating celebrations that will be remembered for a lifetime… and the beauty of dreaming big for your life, and believing in the power of those dreams.

Our Heart…

You see… our workshops are not just about the techniques and mechanics of floral design. Our purpose to is teach, encourage, inspire and empower people along their creative journey. Yes, we will absolutely teach you how to make our signature lush arrangements and bouquets, how to build and install an event, and how to design all of the details of a beautiful tablescape. But… we go far beyond that as we push you to define your dream and really identify what it is you want out of the creative journey you are on in addition to helping you figure out how to get to the next level of where you want to be.

One of a kind, hands on experience…

I’ve had a lot of people ask if we would continue to do our workshops since we recently launched an online workshop. The answer has always been “YES!” I’m thankful we had the opportunity to launch an online course, but nothing replaces being in person with someone, building a real relationship, listening and having eye contact with someone as you speak with them face to face. I can show how I create bouquets in a video but walking you through the process in person while you have flowers in your hand, and offering constructive feedback of your work is a completely different experience. Nothing can ever truly replace a hands on, face to face experience. Our in person workshops are one of a kind.

The 2018 Schedule:

This year we will be offering the following four workshops in our studio.

February 22nd- 24th “The Art of Floral Design Workshop”

March 22nd- 24th “The Art of Floral Design Workshop”

April 26th-28th “Event Design Workshop”

June 7th-9th   “Real Wedding Workshop”

Check out our  workshop website for complete descriptions of each of these courses and for more details including information on pricing and payment plans!

No experience necessary for any of these workshops! We’ll teach you everything you need to know!

Registration for all of these workshops will open on Thursday November 15th!

We are offering early bird pricing through December 1st before increasing the rate of each workshop.

Simply put… a lot of people just can’t afford the investment of a workshop. I was one of those people when I started my business… I didn’t have any money to my name. I wouldn’t be where I am today if a few people didn’t believe in me and lend me a helping hand. This is why I offer scholarships; it’s part of my way of giving back. I want to believe in someone’s dream and give them that extra help they may need so they can get closer to where they want to be.

This year we are continuing our scholarship program and offering 4 scholarships for 2018. The submissions will be done through Instagram. Please check our Instagram feed @sinclairandmoore on Thursday evening November 9th for details on how to enter a submission. Submissions will be accepted Thursday, November 9th through Monday, November 13th. Recipients will be announced on our blog on the evening of November 15.

Anyone is eligible to apply.

Big things to come!

We have a lot of great things planned for our 2018 workshops and hope you will consider joining us! Remember to check out our Workshop Website for more detailed information, and as always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions to the e-mail provided on our site!

Sinclair & Moore Scholarship

Can I be honest? When I announced I was going to offer 5 scholarships to people I had a fear run through me… “what if no one applies…” I actually started trying to come up with friends in the industry I could gift scholarships to in the event that no one else was interested.

I have had several friends ask me why I would even give scholarships in the first place to workshops that have previously always sold out. I think to some it didn’t make sense to give limited seats away when there would be people willing to pay for those seats. The answer to this is simple: I know firsthand what it is like to have so many ambitions, goals and dreams but to feel like they are unattainable because of financial limitations. A lot of people don’t realize that I grew up pretty poor and have had to fight my way out of that. Exactly ten years ago I started my business with less than $500 in my bank account, and simultaneously worked a minimum wage job just to make ends meet. I know what it is like to wonder how rent will be paid in two weeks. I know what it is like to skip meals to save the money. I’ve laid awake at night filled with anxiety, wondering what the future holds. There were so many things I wanted to do at times, but just couldn’t afford to do them. But then somebody helped me. They believed in me. They saw talent and potential. At a time when I felt alone and was questioning if I should throw in the towel on my business, this person gave me a small loan that helped me get over a hump. They asked for me to pay it back someday by helping others who need the support to overcome the obstacles hindering their dreams. So I’m offering scholarships… to pay forward a kindness that was once given to me, and to help people who have lost a bit of hope regain the confidence to keep chasing their dreams and the calling on their lives.

Yet… like everyone… I am human, insecure and sometimes afraid to put myself out there. I didn’t even know if anyone would want a scholarship. The self doubt that so quickly creeps into all of us made me question if I really had anything to offer that people would want to learn.

But then the applications started rolling in… 1….2….5…. 20….100… 165… 230. I’m still blown away. More than 230 applicants from all over the world responded. We heard from people from Indonesia, Kenya, France, Australia, England, Mexico, Canada and almost every state in the Union. As I started reading through the words that were submitted, I realized that these were so much more than scholarship applications… these were stories of real people with real struggles, real fears, real hurdles, real insecurities, real questions, real victories, real hopes and real dreams. The vulnerability that was displayed and the honest glimpse into these lives was humbling to receive.

Sinclair & Moore scholarship 4

I want to say thank you to each person that applied. Thank you for being vulnerable, and taking a risk to put yourself out there. Thank you for sharing with me a bit of your journey. Thank you for your kind words to me and my wife about our work and how we have inspired you. I want you to know that we feel honored to have read your hopes and dreams and to be trusted with your stories. I felt a responsibility to carefully read each one and to give each person an equal opportunity.

Sinclair & Moore scholarship 5

Choosing 5 applicants from the beautiful stories we received was an impossibility. We decided to double the number of scholarships and offer 2 scholarships per session, for a total of 10 scholarships. We selected a range of people from different walks of life and different levels of experience. Some people have been in the industry for years and want to figure out how to take the next step, Some of these recipients are in a place of discouragement and are wondering if they should stop dreaming. One applicant touched me with the amount of joy she was beaming with in her photo, and that same joy resonated in her articulate words describing what she wanted out of life. Some people have never touched flowers before and are just getting started on their journey. The choices were difficult to make, and we sat for hours reading, discussing, narrowing it down and finally selected the 10 recipients.

Sinclair & Moore scholarship 6

Before I list the scholarship recipients, I want to repeat my thankfulness for everyone who applied.  Your stories have inspired me and reminded me why I want to teach workshops in the first place. My heart feels burdened thinking about how many people might be discouraged by not receiving a scholarship. To all of you I say… please keep dreaming and don’t give up on any of your goals.  I want you to know that your stories were just as meaningful, inspiring and beautiful as the people who are receiving the scholarships. Please don’t question that.  It was a terribly difficult decision, and I wish there was a way to gift a scholarship to everyone. We will have more workshops in the future with additional scholarships; I welcome you to apply again, and sincerely hope that you do.
